Road Works

The work of maintaining the roads in and around our city is constant.

Road works can involve anything from minor work to fix a pot hole which takes only a few minutes to a major project to rebuild a section of road that has completely worn out.

Weekly Traffic Report gives updates of road works that are happening in and around the city.

To report a problem with road works or to find out more information please call 07 577 7000.

If you wish to carry out work in the road corridor you need to have permission from Council.  The road corridor includes the road, the berm or verge and the footpaths.  Please click here for a form to apply for permission to work in the road corridor or call 07 577 7000 for more information.

Resealing

Resealing work ensures that city’s road network remains safe, efficient and able to cope with the amount of traffic using it.  Most resealing takes place in the summer months, excluding the busy Christmas and New Year period.

This year new chipseal and asphalt surfacing on our roads will cost about $3 million.

Care is taken to try and minimise the impact on road users, but some disruption is inevitable.

Minor Safety Work

Every year Council does a range of small safety projects around the city.  The Minor Safety Works Programme includes improving intersection visibility, installing roundabouts and speed cushions in residential streets to help address speed issues and putting in new pedestrian crossings and refuges.

For more information about the Minor Safety Works Programme please call us on 07 577 7000.

Tauranga City Council is committed to ensuring a safe environment for the general public and also promoting safe site work practises. This commitment is reliant on cooperation from all those involved in building, development and minor works. As a builder, developer or contractor, you need to know what your obligations are in providing a safe footpath outside your work area.

The 'Supplement for Temporary Traffic Management' contains additional information about what is required to set up a safe work site in an easily understood and consistent way that will also assist in meeting statutory requirements. This manual has been prepared jointly by the Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Tauranga City Council and NZTA in conjunction with other organisations and contractors associated with, and concerned about safety within the road corridors as it applies to all activities.

Read a copy of the manual here - use this Content Page to step through the manual

For more information on setting up a safe site for your project contact Council on 07 577 7000.
